Artist Statement
Many of Çağla Arıbal's passions in life are riveted together in the realm of literature. Inclined toward “morally passionate and passionately moral” stories written in placid but with ironic, unexpected wrinkles. She is deeply interested in the topics of authorship, forgery, displacement and interplays between languages. When a piece demands different forms (and multitudes) than simply writing, she aspires to stage them, accompanied by other mediums such as music and film. She is always inspired by the synergy emerging from collective work. To cherish that richness, she leads writing courses and workshops with a non-didactic approach and with bare hands accompanied by open minds. It is important for her to make literature or any form of written expression not an aloof occupation but a pertinent, redeemable one, especially when life gets too serious while we are rebuilding a life in another country.
