Biography
Sahar Homami (they/she) is an audiovisual composer, calligrapher and researcher from Tehran, based in Berlin and Montreal. Homami’s approach to art and technology is unique and multidisciplinary, allowing them to explore altered states of consciousness through music and image. Their work pushes the boundaries of perception, and is deeply influenced by mystical thought-systems and literature. Their approach is exploratory, motivated by a desire to blend art, technology, philosophy, and mysticism in order to connect generative art with traditional art forms and develop innovative means of understanding the world around us.
Artist Statement
"I am a storyteller. I tell stories to enhance the human experience, utilizing digital tools and platforms to craft narratives and produce distinctive experiences that reflect both our human condition. In my work, I explore the intersection of art, science, philosophy, literature, and technology, using each to inform and enrich the others. I often create generate art and produce real-time content for multimedia exhibitions and live performances. I utilize node-based programming languages and media servers to achieve this. Additionally, I enjoy merging the traditional art of calligraphy with digital art, creating landscapes that complement the written subject matter.
My ultimate goal is to create a live, poetic cinema that is accompanied by music, expanding our minds and enhancing our human experience. I aim to tell stories that are both individual and universal, with the hope of achieving this."
